I am trying to backup my Site Server but it’s failing with an “Error: Sql Server could not prepare for the Backup.”

If I look in the “smsbkup.log” I see the following:

Sleeping for 5 seconds...

Error: Sql Server could not prepare for the Backup.
Aborting the backup process.
Error: CreateSnapshotSet failed...

I’ve tried restating the VSS services, running vssadmin list writers and a whole bunch of other stuff but nothing works.
