Secondary Site fails with “Could not connect SQL Server ‘master’ db.”

I am trying to install a Secondary Site.

I’ve started Create Secondary Site Wizard on the Parent Primary Site. When I get to the SQL Server Settings page I select the Use an existing SQL Server database option and type MSSQLSERVER in the SQL Server instance name field (which is blank),and complete the wizard.

However, the installation fails and if I look in the ConfigMgrSetup.log on the Secondary Site I see the following lines:

Could not connect SQL Server ‘master’ db.
Could not verify SQL Server is clustered or not because the setup could not connect to the SQL Server SCCM52659 or failed to run the query.
Configuration Manager v.Next Could not connect or execute SQL query.
