“The conversion of a nvarchar data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value” error when trying to install Cumulative Update 3 for ConfigMgr 2012 R2

I am trying to install Cumulative Update 3 (CU3), for ConfigMgr 2012 R2.

However, the upgrade scripts aren’t running and I receive a message that not all database changes were applied.

I also see the following errors in the Cumulative Update log file:

Msg 242, level 16, State 3, procedure spImportInventoryReport, line 474
