“Wait failed while waiting for all DP threads to end. Thread Count = 94, Error = 87” if trying to distribute or update content to more than 100 ConfigMgr 2012 DPs

“Wait failed while waiting for all DP threads to end. Thread Count = 94, Error = 87” if trying to distribute or update content to more than 100 ConfigMgr 2012 DPs

I am trying to distribute a new Package to lots of Distribution Points (more than 100), but I’m finding that the SMS Executive Service stops unexpectedly.

Sometimes I see the following in the Distmgr.log (although not always as I’m guessing SMS Executive is crashing before it can update the log):

Wait failed while waiting for all DP threads to end. Thread Count = 94, Error = 87
Distribution Manager tried 100 times, it will exit now

I also get this problem if I try updating content on a large number of DPs.
