“Wait failed while waiting for all DP threads to end. Thread Count = 94, Error = 87” in distmgr.log when trying to remove a Package from a DP

I am trying to remove a Package from my Distribution Points (DPs), but the SMS_Executive service is crashing unexpectedly.

If I look in distmgr.log I see the following just before SMS_Executive crashes:

Wait failed while waiting for all DP threads to end. Thread Count = 94, Error = 87
Distribution Manager tried 100 times, it will exit now
