Microsoft has just updated  KB article 2832622:

FIX: Automatic client upgrades are unsuccessful for Configuration Manager 2007 clients in System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Service Pack 1

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You enable the Upgrade client automatically when new client updates are available option on a Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Service Pack 1 (SP1) site.
  • You assign a Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 client to the site.

In this scenario, automatic client upgrades are unsuccessful on the System Center Configuration Manager 2007 client. Additionally, entries that resemble the following are logged in the PolicyEvaluator.log file on the client computer:
