“The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication”

I am seeing an issue that it looks like ConfigMgr is using the Site System Installation when a remote Site System is trying to connect to my Site Database.

In my environment I have a Site Server with the Site Database running on a remote server.

I have installed a remote Distribution Point (DP), in my DMZ (an untrusted Domain). When I installed this DP I selected the Use another account for installing this site system option for the Site System Installation Account. The account I specified has local admin rights on the DP server.

However, what I’ve noticed is that ConfigMgr is actually using this Site System Installation Account which is only configured for the remote DP when it tries to update the Site Database.

If I look in SQL Server log on the Site Database Server I’m seeing:

MSSQLSERVER,18452,Logon,Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication. [CLIENT: ]

If I look in Distrmg.log I see:
*** [28000][18452][Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication.

*** Failed to connect to the SQL Server. Cannot save the package status to the data source…
