“The Group Policy Client service failed the sign-in. The universal unique identifier (UUID) type is not supported” when user tries to logon the first time to Windows 8.x after initial deployment of the image

I have deployed a Windows 8.x image using ConfigMgr 2012.

However, when a User starts the system that has the Windows 8.x image (physical or virtual), and tries to log on for the first time, they see the following error message:

The Group Policy Client service failed the sign-in. 
The universal unique identifier (UUID) type is not supported.

Some users also see this when they try subsequent logons.

If user clicks OK the Windows logon screen is displayed again.
