| I have some Windows 95 clients that
are still hanging even after having followed the tips on
Clients Performance on
the "Generic Client Queries/Problems" page. Is there anything else I
can try? Microsoft have released a
Knowledge Base Article on this subject
269411
'Windows
95 Clients May Hang After Upgrade to Service Pack 2.' This article
handles problems with Windows 95 clients hanging during Hardware Inventory, when
an Outlook attachment is opened or when an Office document is opened in
Explorer.
The hotfix detailed in this article can be obtained from
Microsoft if you are experiencing the problems detailed in the article, which
become visible in the "Hin32.log" file on the client:
WARNING 1 - Failed to update new cycle info !!! Hardware
Inventory Agent 7/24/2000 11:49:37 AM 4294127983 (0xFFF3316F)
ERROR 1 - Cannot get schedule for previous cycle !!
Hardware Inventory Agent 7/24/2000 11:49:37 AM 4294127983 (0xFFF3316F)
This problem also appears to affect Windows 98 clients as
well.
The "hanging" problem apparently doesn't exist
if you disable Hardware Inventory on Windows 95 clients.
An alternative "fix" to the "hanging"
problem is:
-
Remove the SMS 2.0 client using "20clicln.bat".
-
Delete all traces of the SMS client from the machine
such as Registry entries and the directory structure.
-
Install DCOM 1.3 and reboot.
-
Install WMI 1.5 and reboot
-
Install the SMS 2.0 client then reboot.
