Excluding domain controllers running SMS 1.2 from SMS 2.0 Remote Client Installation |
|
I'm upgrading from SMS 1.2 to SMS 2.0 with NT
Remote Client Installation enabled under SMS 2.0. Is there a way of excluding
some domain controllers from installing the SMS 2.0 client as some of my domain
controllers are SMS 1.2 primary site servers?

SMS Client Upgrade from 1.2 to 2.0 |
|
Our MS Consultant just told me that since SP2
it was not necessary to remove the 1.2 client prior to enabling the 2.0 client.
Does everybody agree with this statement?
That was
true with SMS 2.0 SP1. We use the Remote Client Installation and if you watch
the active processes in Task Manager, you will see that one of the things that
Clicore.exe calls is something called 'migrat1x.exe'. This is what cleans out the
old SMS 1.2 client, and it worked for us in SMS 2.0 SP1. |
Upgrade from SMS 1.2 to SMS 2.0 SP2 client |
|
Someone had posted here that the upgrade from SMS 1.2 to SMS 2.0 SP2 (Client only) was better than previous versions of SMS 2.0. Then it was stated that Remote Control never updates on the client, even after multiple reboots of the client. Has anyone else found this to be true or verify this with a Q article? It eventually works, but is painful in transition. Look at
the
RCZAP utility on
Rod Trent's page, which helps soften the blow somewhat. Also, Windows 95 has
several issues that are currently being tossed around right now described in
articles 266232 'Windows
95 Clients Hang When Remote Control Agent Is Installed' and
269411 'Windows
95 Clients May Hang After Upgrade to Service Pack 2' . The latter was
the one that really nailed us, but the hotfix took care of it. |
