If you have a Windows 2000 server can you
install SMS 1.2 and SQL 7.0 onto it and can it push packages and do all of the
SMS functions to a Windows 2000 Professional client machine? Or can you have a
NT 4 Server with SMS 1.2 with SQL 7.0 and push packages and so all of the SMS
functions to a Windows 2000 Professional client machine? SMS 1.2 is not compatible with SQL 7.0. You'll need to go
with 6.5. You'll also need SMS 1.2 SP4 which you can get free from PSS by
quoting
254532 "SMS:
Systems Management Server 1.2 Support Fixes for Microsoft Windows 2000".
Once this is applied you will then be able to have a mixture in your 1.2
environment - you don't have to upgrade all clients to 2000. Remember, this fix
changes the site server system map file. No big deal, but all your clients will
do a client upgrade. I had 4000+ systems get updated! I had over 3000 MIF files
sitting in the "dataloader.box", they are just finally clearing up after a week.
All your clients will get the reboot message after this also unless you take
advantage of
186412 "SMS: How
to Disable the Restart Now/Don't Restart Now Message".
