Why don’t SCCM packages configured to run from a DP work on a cloud DP?

I have several SCCM packages configured to run from my distribution points, but those don’t seem to work for packages distributed to a cloud-based DP. So why don’t SCCM packages configured to run from a DP work on a cloud DP?

ANSWER

This is because packages configured in this way are not supported on SCCM cloud-based DPs. Any packages you want an SCCM client to be able to access from a cloud DP need

SCCM “Site Component Manager failed to install this component on this site system” for SMS_DMAPPSVC_CONTROL_MANAGER when installing the Application Catalog web service point

I am trying to install the ConfigMgr Application Catalog web service point on a remote Site System.

However I am getting the following Status Message for the SMS_DMAPPSVC_CONTROL_MANAGER component:

Site Component Manager failed to install this component on this site system.
Solution: Review the previous status messages to determine the exact reason for the failure. Site Component Manager will automatically retry the installation in 60 minutes. To force Site Component Manager to immediately retry the installation, stop and restart Site Component Manager using the Configuration Manager Service Manager.

If I look in sitecomp.log I see:

All files installed.
Starting bootstrap operations…
Component file list item in the install map for component SMS_DMAPPSVC_CONTROL_MANAGER does not contain srvboot.exe.
Bootstrap operations aborted.
Installation failed and will be retried in the next polling cycle.
LogEvent(): Successfully logged Event to NT Event Log (1, 1, -1073740808, (null)).

“MP Control Manager detected management point is not responding to HTTP requests. The HTTP status code and text is 401, Unauthorized”

I have a Management Point that when I view it in Site Status in the Console (Monitoring\Overview\System Status\Site Status) it’s Status is showing as Critical. It is also reporting Error Status Message ID 5436.

MP Control Manager detected management point is not responding to HTTP requests. The HTTP status code and text is 401, Unauthorized

If I look in mpcontrol.log I am seeing:

Call to HttpSendRequestSync failed for port 80 with status code 401, text: Unauthorized
Http test request failed, status code is 401, 'Unauthorized'.

I have tried all kinds of things such as removing and reinstalling the MP, running the prerequisite check for the MP to make sure I haven’t missed anything there, and even a Site Reset all without success.
