Why when I install a Cumulative Update on a Site is the whole Client installation bundle copied to my Pull DPs when it doesn’t need to be?

When I install a Cumulative Update on a Site I’ve noticed that the whole Client installation bundle is copied unnecessarily to my Pull Distribution Points.

Warning message for the “Perform Database Update” Action displayed during the installation of CU2 for R2

If I am trying to install Cumulative Update 2 (CU2), for ConfigMgr 2012 R2.

However, I’m seeing a Warning message for the Perform Database Update Action and if I look in the installation log I see:

Task status detail added: A SqlException occurred, Line Number: 0 Error: -2 Message: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.

The configured timeout for the queries from the update installer is not sufficient for script execution on this site, to resolve this issue the update.sql script that this update has copied to the local system can be launched manually.

Why don’t I receive a Hotfix I’ve requested?

I’ve found a Microsoft Knowledge Base Article that contains a Hotfix that is relevant to my issue.

I’ve clicked to download the Hotfix and completed my email address and hit Request hotfix but the email never arrives.

Why have I lost the changes I made to the built-in Collections when I installed Service Pack 1?

In my environment I’ve made changes to the built-in Collections in ConfigMgr 2012 RTM.

I’ve just upgraded to Service Pack 1 (SP1), and I’ve lost all of my changes.

“This update applies to systems running cumulative update 1, this system has cumulative update 0 this system will need to be updated with cumulative update 1 before this hotfix can be applied.”

I am trying to install a hotfix but it’s failing on a Secondary Site with the following error:

This update applies to systems running cumulative update 1, this system has cumulative update 0 this system will need to be updated with cumulative update 1 before this hotfix can be applied.

Why can’t I install a SP1 CU3 Site Server on Windows Server 2012 R2?

Despite Cumulative Update 3 (CU3), for ConfigMgr 2012 Service Pack 1 providing support for installing the Site Database Server on a computer running Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard or Datacenter Editions, this support does not extend to installing either a Site Server or the SMS Provider on a computer running this operating system.

For ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (Windows ADK), version 8.0 is a prerequisite that has to be installed on a computer that is either going to be a Site Server and/ or hosting an instance of the SMS Provider.

As Windows Server 2012 R2 does not support the Windows ADK it’s therefore fundamentally at an Operating System level unsupported to install either a SP1 Site Server or the SMS Provider (even CU 3), on a computer running Windows Server 2012 R2.

I am trying to install Cumulative Update 3 (CU3), for ConfigMgr 2012 R2.

However, the upgrade scripts aren’t running and I receive a message that not all database changes were applied.

I also see the following errors in the Cumulative Update log file:

I’ve tried installing Cumulative Update 3 (CU3) for ConfigMgr 2012 Service Pack 1 (SP1).

The update has installed but has a warning status.

On closer inspection I’ve found the following error in CM12-SP1CU3-KB2882125-X64-ENU.log:

Why are the “All Windows RT” and “All Windows RT 8.1 Preview” entries appearing in the Supported Platforms list for new Configuration Items after applying CU3 for SCCM 2012 SP1?

I’ve installed Cumulative Update 3 (CU3) for ConfigMgr 2012 Service Pack 1 (SP1).

However, I’ve noticed that the All Windows RT and All Windows RT 8.1 Preview entries are appearing in the supported platform list for new Configuration Items.
