Why is the "Browse…" button greyed out on the "Import Object Wizard" screen?

I'm trying to import a MOF file that was exported from another Site. From within the SMS Admin Console I right-click "Queries" and select "All Tasks | Import Objects...". Then I click "Next >" on the "Welcome to the Import Object Wizard" screen but the "Browse..." button is greyed out on the "Import Object Wizard" screen.

How do I enable this button?

The reason the "
Browse..." button is greyed out is because you don't have sufficient rights within the SMS Administrator Console. To resolve this:

  1. Load the SMS Administrator Console.

  2. Navigate to "Systems Management Server | Site Database (<site_code> - <site_description>)".

  3. Right-click "Security Rights" and from the context menu select "All Tasks | Manage SMS Users".

  4. Click the "Next >" button on the "Welcome to the SMS User Wizard" screen.

  5. If you are adding a new user (the default option), enter the user’s name in the "Add a new user:" field in the format "<domain>\<userID>" (e.g. "FAQShop\cliff").

  6. If you want to modify an existing user to grant them the rights to import a MOF, click the "Modify an existing user:" radio button and select the relevant user from the dropdown list.

  7. Click the "Next >" button which will display the "Rights" screen.

  8. Click the "Add another right or modify an existing one" radio button.

  9. Click the "Next >" button which will display the "Add a Right" screen.

  10. Select "Query" from the "Class:" dropdown.

  11. Ensure "(All Instances)" is selected in the "Instance:" dropdown (which it is by default).

  12. Make sure as a minimum the user has the "Modify" and "Read" permissions (these are towards the bottom of the "Permissions:" list and when you tick "Modify" "Read" is automatically granted).

  13. Then click the "Next >" button which will display the "Rights" screen.

  14. If you don’t need to add/ modify any other rights click the "Next >" button.

  15. Click the "Finish" button on the "Completing the SMS User Wizard" screen.

  16. The user whose rights you have modified will need to close and re-open the SMS Administrator Console in order to pickup the new rights.
