My SMS_MP_CONTROL_MANAGER
component is reporting hundreds of 5414 errors that indicate that the MP cannot
connect to the SQL database. This is impacting my ability to run either software
or hardware inventories. I've confirmed that my SMS Site server machine account
is a member of the SQL server's "SMS_SiteSystemToSQLConnection_sitecode"
local group. I'm also seeing the following error in my mpcontrol.log file:
Http verification .sms_aut
failed with status code 403, Access Forbidden
Everything else seems to be
working fine in my SMS site except for software and hardware inventory.

Run SQL profiler and trace the MP to SQL connection. If the MP connection
does not show the MP machine account but anonymous instead then you could have
issues with SQL SPNs.
Check the SMS 2003 readme for info on SQL SPNs. You may also have a kerberos
issue which prevents the MP machine account from authenticating on the network.
In those cases renewing the Kerberos ticket often works but in some instances
unjoining and rejoining the domain has been required.
