We had a problem yesterday getting a Management Point to install.
We were attempting to install SMS 2003 on a Windows 2000 SP3 server with SQL
2000 SP2 and IIS. SMS appears to install fine but when we assigned the
Management Point Role within SMS to the server the MP.msi install fails with an
error indicating that it could not create the CCM_Incoming Virtual Directory.
If we blew away the default web site and created one of our own we got an error
that it could not identify the IIS anonymous account. The IIS anonymous account
is defined.
After contacting MS and opening a ticket it turned out the task scheduler
service needed to be running when the MP gets installed. Due to the disconnect
between the error message and the root cause I thought I would post this here.

This is now filed as an SMS 2003 SP1 bug and will hopefully get fixed. The fix
will be to better discovery and report this and other MP deployment
pre-requisites.
