We are receiving the following error message approximately every 15 minutes after completing the Advanced Client install on all Windows 2000 Servers. KB 289650 refers to this problem on Windows 2000 Professional. The fix did not work on Windows 2000 Server. Any help is appreciated.

Remove client via ccmclean.exe, reinstall. This usually fixes it.  If the problem is widespread (check Event Log on numerous clients), or if reinstalling doesn't fix it, call PSS as there is a hotfix (831648 "Event ID 4100 or Event ID 4356 is logged in the application event log of Advanced Clients in Systems Management Server 2003").

The hotfix necessitates a change on the client end, which must be accomplished via a patch (.msp) since the client is now installed via .msi.  As a result, applying the hotfix to the site server does not proliferate the change to existing clients, nor does it apply it to newly installed clients.

Thus, one must create a standing Advertisement that will update all existing clients and new ones as they are installed (or exploit GPO or other means to execute). Rather a conspicuous "band-aid", I'm afraid.

I suspect that when SP1 is released, it will likely contain a recompiled update of the client installation .msi, and thus eliminate the need for the separate patch.
