Will SMS 2.0 Clients Work with an SMS 2003 Site?

I'm reading the SMS 2003 Concepts, Planning and Deployment Guide and one thing I'm not very clear on is whether or not an existing SMS 2.0 client will report back to a SMS 2003 server.

In the most general terms, our initial idea for upgrading would be to take down our SMS 2.0 server, and reinstall it from the ground up. Then, once this has been completed, begin updating our clients.

However, I'm just not clear on how the existing 2.0 clients will react to this, assuming we use the same site code etc. We only have a single SMS server. Does this general approach set off any alarms with anyone?

It is not recommended to rip out site from underneath its clients and I'm not sure if its supported but if you chose to do this you will need to bring up the SMS 2003 site with the same sitecode, CAP servers, client connection accounts/ passwords as used in the 2.0 site.

Clients should then automatically upgrade to the SMS 2003 Legacy client. If you want to upgrade any of the 2.0 clients directly to 2003 Advanced client you should distribute the "
cliupgrade /disable" which will prevent them from auto-upgrading to the Legacy client. You can then upgrade them to the Advanced client using one of the SMS 2003 client installation methods.
