Someone told me that
SMS Installer was disappearing with SMS 2003, and would
be replaced by WinInstall. Has anyone heard of this?

SMS will no longer supply SMS Installer. It is not going away as a product,
but is being untied from using SMS as a distribution method. You will be
able to download it from the SMS web site.
As to WinInstall, we are not replacing SMS Installer with any other
technology in SMS 2003. You are welcome to use whatever packaging technology
you wish. SMS can deploy packages from any source. We're just removing SMS
Installer from the SMS CD.
