A Management Point (MP), is simply an intermediary between the Site Server and Advanced Clients (if you are familiar with SMS 2.0 and Client Access Points (CAPs), an MP does the same thing for Advanced Clients as CAPs do for SMS 2.0 and Legacy Clients).

Advanced Clients contact the MP and request any Policies that affect them including updates to existing Policies. The MP then accesses the Site Database to retrieve the information and passes it back to the Advanced Client to action.

Advanced Clients also upload discovery data, inventory data, and Status Messages to the MP which it in turn forwards to the Site Server.

In addition, MPs provide Advanced Clients with a list of Distribution Points (DPs), from which they can run the Programs advertised to them.
