One of the many new features of SMS 2003 Service Pack 2 is the "Active Directory Security Group" Discovery Method.

  • As it's name suggests you can now discover AD Security Groups without having to use the AD User or AD System Group Discovery methods.

  • Discovery of nested groups is supported and optionally configurable.

  • A new Collection and Query called "All Active Directory Security Groups" will appear in the SP2 version of the SMS Administrator Console that will contain any groups discovered by this Discovery Method (the "Adsgdis.log" also contains information about the groups discovered by this Discovery Method).

  • Collection objects are the actual group names and NOT the individual members of the group. This allows you to target the without having to update the group membership to pick up any changes (additions/ deletions of resources).
