Yes the Service Pack (SP) 2 or SP3 version of the 32-bit Advanced Client is supported on the following x64-based Operating Systems (OSs):

  • Windows XP Professional x64 Edition

  • Windows Server 2003 Standard x64 Edition

  • Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 Edition

  • Windows Server 2003 Datacenter x64 Edition

  • Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition SP1 for Itanium-based Systems

  • Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition SP1 for Itanium-based Systems

  • Windows Vista x64

The Legacy Client is NOT supported on a 64-bit OS.

There are some important things to note though:

  • The Advanced Client will run in 32-bit mode on these platforms - there is no native 64-bit SMS 2003 Client

  • SMS 2003 SP3 adds a new class "Add Remove Programs (64)" which allows Software Inventory to collect information relating to 64-bit apps running on 64-bit computers

  • The Inventory Tool for Microsoft Updates (ITMU) shipped with SMS 2003 SP3 can be used for detection and deployment of Microsoft security updates for 64-bit operating systems.

  • The 64-bit Advanced Client is installed in the "<systemroot>\windows\syswow64\ccm" directory

  • To see the SMS icons in Control Panel you need to click "View x86 Control Panel Icons"
