Windows 2000 client installation problems

We have a group of 10 or so test systems being used to certify Win2000 and internal business applications. These are also supposed to accept the usual SMS client install (logon install method). I'm finding that only 2 or 3 of these are actually installed. I'm working on one particular system to find out where the problem is (brand new Armada M700 laptop with tons of memory & disk). User is also local admin. I've done a "CliClean" to strip out the little bit of the client that *tried* to install, and ran a manual install - here's the snippet from the "wnmanual.log" that seems to apply:

ERROR: NetServerGetInfo failed (2114) $$<CliEx32.dll
ERROR: Unable to create the Client Service Account. Win32 Error: 2114 $$<CliEx32.dll Warning: Could not launch/register CCIM - 2114 $$<CliEx32.dll Warning: could not open base component installation properties $$<CliEx32.dll>

I've not yet been able to interpret the Error 2114. I've got a "ccrretry" file on this system with an "Error=53" (Network Path not found) I know there is a similar thread ongoing, but that is NT4 client specific.

This problem has previously been resolved by using a client installation account. You may have problems getting the client to install until you setup the user as an administrator of the machine (hence the use of the client installation account). This is on Windows 2000 only. Look in the temp dir of the machine and see if you find an attempted install there.

Otherwise, check that the ADMIN shares are created on the workstation. If the Server service isn't running then these won't be there and without the admin shares the client install process fails and returns the rather cryptic symptoms described above. Starting the server service and re-running "
SMSLS.BAT" should re-install the full client almost immediately.
