| What would
happen if you changed the IP address of the Site Server? How would that
affect client communication to the Site Server and CAP?

If you follow
these 5 steps, there should be no issues with the communication between the
SMS Site Server and ANY of it's site systems.
-
Add the new subnet
to the SMS Site Server before the old one is removed. That way the
boundary will be effective from an SMS point of view as soon as the IP
actually changes.
-
Run 'NBTSTST
-R'
and 'NBTSTAT
-RR'
from the "RE-IP'd" server to re-register server's new IP address in WINS.
-
Force a replication
of the WINS replication partners for the WINS Infrastructure the SMS Site
Server is in.
-
Run 'NBTSTST
-R'
and 'IPCONFIG
/FLUSHDNS'
from any child Site Servers and site systems (Distribution Points, CAP's,
Logon Points) of the "RE-IP'd" server in order for the servers to see the
Parent server and it's site systems at the new IP address immediately.
-
Remove the old
subnet after it has actually been removed from the network.
