"Cannot write to control file. Setup cannot continue" Message When Installing SP3

I tried installing SMS SP3 on my Primary site server but towards the end of the installation I got the following error message:

"Cannot write to control file. Setup cannot continue"

The version number of the site and clients PCs shows as SP3 so I’m a bit mystified why I got this error and whether it’s anything to be worried about?

Try rebooting the server and applying the Service Pack which will probably now install without any errors.
