Bad Incremental Software Inventory after changing to a new Site server on Windows 2000

We changed the SMS Server from 2.0.3 on NT to 2.0.5 on Windows 2000 in December with a new site name. The first (full) software inventory worked well on all clients but the following incremental software inventory update fails for 75% of the clients.

All of these *.SID files are in "
...\SMS\inboxes\sinv.box\BADSinv\*.sid". The SMS_INVENTORY_DATA_LOADER shows errors and the explanation mentions a "fail to process the delta MIF file". "Possible cause: The file is corrupt or contains bad syntax."

The SMS_SOFTWARE_INVENTORY_PROCESSOR shows errors too.

Possible cause: The file attempted to update inventory information in the SMS site database that does not already exist, or the file contains invalid syntax.

Sounds like the clients are out of sync and sending Delta's back to the SMS site server. Did you do a site recovery or move clients over to a new site because this normally happens and you need to issue a client resync for HINV and SINV after that.

You can use the following registry key in an SMS package to trigger a full re-sync:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;325585

Or you can use cli_inv.ipf from the SMS 2.0 Recovery Wizard to create a package to distribute for your site code.
