Problems with SMS Passwords after Domain Admin Password changed

I am trying to get SMS 2.0 going on a Windows 2000 Active Directory environment. This has been my second attempt, and both were working ok until the Admin password for the Domain was changed. After that happened, the SMS and SQL services on the SMS server fails to start due to logon failure. Specifically, SMS SQL Monitor, SMS Site Component Manager, and SMS Executive.

I have checked and double checked that the service are logging on using the SMS Service and SQL Service account respectively. I have also given those accounts God rights. I can however, go into the MMC and retype the account password for those account, and the service starts just fine. That is until some time passes or I do a reboot. At which point, I must again retype the password in the "log in as"
field, restart the service. The accounts are not showing up as locked out in the Users and Computers Snap In.

In further attempts, I have upgraded to SP5 and performed a Site reset twice. Once its prompted me to reset that server account, which I responded No to, the Other I responded Yes, neither seemed to have an effect.

Any overall advice would be appreciated. I never specified the Admin Password during the SMS setup on the Initial install, but the server was logged in as administrator. Was this my error? I know about the SMS service account, and the SQL Account, but was about the other accounts that SMS creates? Are these accounts affected by the Domain Password change?

My primary use for SMS is going to be for Software Inventory, and I wouldn't mind getting the metering features working. SMS seems to be Overwhelmingly robust in its capabilities. I am familiar with Dameware Utilities, and I love it. It can do wonderful things including pulling a software inventory from and individual PC but cannot put together a report for the entire Domain. Is anyone familiar with a similar product that does contain that feature? and is easy to use/deploy (besides SMS) :)

Thank you in advance.

SMS should not care about the Administrator password, unless you are using that account as the SMS Service account (or other accounts in SMS). We use our own accounts, and as long as the SMS installation has knowledge of the exiting account credentials, you should be fine.

A great whitepaper to read is:
