A client shows up in the collection as
"CLIENT=No", and/or
"ASSIGNED=No"; Resource Explorer, on the other hand shows
current inventory. Yet on the client, SMS shows the assigned Site Code, current
"Updated" date/time, and the installed components show as
"Installed".
To refresh the site database's "ASSIGNED"
and "CLIENT" data, do we take the client's "..\ms\sms\core\data\SMSDISC.DDR" and
copy this to "CAP_<sitecode>\DDR.BOX" to force the reset/update in the
database? This can happen if you use logon installation but NOT
discovery ("SMSMAN" for instance). Essentially the system is a client but has
technically not been 'discovered'.
If the workstation performs a Hardware or Software
inventory while in this state, the MIF generated is stored in an 'orphan'
directory on the site server. The server then tries to use the information
contained in this file to generate a discovery record. If sufficient information
is available, a discovery data record is generated and the client's status
updated. The inventory MIF file is then processed as if the workstation had been
discovered by other means.
Yes you could just copy up the local DDR to "DDR.BOX" as
well - that's all Heartbeat discovery does.
