Should I Let the Admin Pack Installation Process Modify My SMS_DEF.MOF?

Should I let the Admin feature pack modify my SMS_DEF.MOF during installation in order for the Feature Pack to work correctly or does the sync tool do the job?

Also how would you modify the SMS_DEF.MOF for Add/Remove Programs data integration? I took a look at the SMS_DEF.MOF and don't see an obvious Add/Remove programs area.

No, you don't need to modify the SMS_DEF.MOF for patch state discovery. It is only required for SMS 2003 advanced clients, not SMS 2.0 or SMS 2003 standard clients. The Scan tool (not the sync tool) collects the data in to WMI, and attaches it to the hardware inventory data.

You may want to have the Web Reporting tool installation modify the SMS_DEF.MOF for Add/Remove Programs data integration, but that is outside the patch analysis process (the Web Reporting tool in the feature packs asks you during installation if you want to modify the SMS_DEF.MOF automatically for this. If you say yes, it will do so for you automatically).
