Every so often you get to hear about a
great tool that could be a real life saver and make life a heck of a lot easier.
Well such a tool is NetSwitcher.
I'm not going to do a full product review here, just give you a taster of this
great bit of shareware.
What is it?
NetSwitcher is a nifty shareware utility that lets you configure and save all of
your network-related settings in one easy to use utility rather than having to
access different Control Panel icons and go hunting around to make sure settings
are set correctly. This includes Printers, Internet Explorer settings, DNS,
WINS, DHCP, drive mappings, dial-up accounts, email client settings, ... the
list goes on and on AND probably one of the best things about it is you only
have to do a reboot for those settings that REALLY require a reboot, not just
because Windows wants to play safe.
Who Needs it?
Once you've configured your settings you can save them under different names
which could be priceless for:
-
People that travel between clients - you can create a configuration for each
client once, get it working, save it and then switch to that configuration
each time you are on site.
-
Travelling laptops - If different sites have different settings such as
DNS/WINS servers, or different printers you can set them all up and then users
can easily switch between them as they visit each site.
-
Mobile Laptops - In the past I've used my own laptop and found it a real pain
that I needed to re-configure it to get it to work at work, then re-configure
it again when I got home to get it work with my home network. Boy life would
have been easier if I'd had this product.
- DR
Purposes - You can save the default settings and then if a user screws things
up or "plays" you can get them to put the default configuration back.
What Platforms Does It
Run On?
NetSwitcher runs on the following platforms:
-
Windows 9.x
- Me
- NT
- 2000
- XP
