Microsoft's Internet Information Services
(IIS) has been something on my "to learn" list since version 4.0 came out in
March 1998 but I've never managed to get around to it and to be honest I haven't
been that worried about it.
However, with an increasing number of Microsoft's Systems Management
technologies now using and relying on II6 (SUS was the first and now SMS 2003),
I can't bury my head in the sand any longer.
So after putting some "feelers" out to the community it seemed that this book
was the one to go for and so I did.
Mitch is a very accomplished author who has published many titles and this book
doesn't disappoint.
584 pages long this book takes you by the hand and begins by explaining the
history of IIS bringing you bang up to date on what's new in IIS 6. The
remaining 16 chapters walk you through everything from the architecture of IIS
and how to plan, install and deploy it through to administering and
troubleshooting the product and more besides.
Each chapter ends with a "Challenge" and a "Checklist" of topics covered in that
chapter that help make sure you've taken in and understood the material
presented.
In summary this is an extremely useful addition to the bookshelf of any user of
Microsoft Systems Management technologies as like or not IIS is something you're
going to have to get to grips with.
