When I try to install KB977384 on a ConfigMgr SP2 Site Server I get the following error message:

"This hotfix is not valid for this version of Configuration Manager"

You are problably seeing this as you have an International Client Pack (ICP) installed on your Site Server.

When you install an ICP the Site Server number gets incremented. When you come to install R3 Prereq hotfix (977384), it does a check to make sure it is only being installed on non-ICP Site Server as the Hotfix currently doesn't support any languages other than English (so if you try to install this hotfix on a SP2 Site Server running an ICP the installation fails).

At the time of writing Microsoft are working to resolve and expect an ICP1 compatible version of the hotfix to be available this month and an ICP 2 version to be available next month.  So if you are in this situation you have two choices:

  • Wait for the ICP-compatible version of the hotfix to be released.
  • Install R3 on a Site Server that isn't running an ICP.
